CLASS OF 1956 GIVES $2,000 TO FM EDUCATION
FOUNDATION
The FMHS Class of 1956 was composed of 96
graduates, of whom 85 are still living. Eighty-four have been located and are in close contact via
mail/email through efforts of the class Alumni Association. Their 50th Class Reunion was held
June 14-17, 2006 in Fayetteville and environs. Fifty-one of the living members of the class (61%) attended at
least one of the four events (reception, clambake, banquet and lake cruise)
during the reunion.
After a number of attempts to organize class
members since the search for all members began in 1998, the Alumni Association
(FMHS56AA) was established in 2001. At
present AA membership stands at 70, or 83% of the living class. Association dues are paid annually and used
to fund class activities such as reunions, newsletters (2 per year), the annual
class roster, class website maintenance (FM56.ORG) and association
administration.
At the formal reunion banquet held June 16,
2006, the class voted to provide a gift to the FM Education Foundation. No overall class gift had previously been
provided, although some members had individually contributed - to the
foundation - in prior years. Since the
Class of ’56 had actually graduated from the current Wellwood school, it was
also decided to split the gift between Wellwood and the current FMHS (During
the reunion in June, the principals of Wellwood [Mr. Almonte] and FMHS [Mr.
Chupaila] provided excellent tours of their schools for class members). All funds are earmarked for special
projects/teaching grants and may not be placed in the general foundation fund. At present, contributions stand at f $2,000.
