Well, if “Stew’s Views” are considered to be editorial, I guess that leaves me with the headlines and “above the fold” stuff. As such, I have two areas to discuss:
DUES – I have received numerous checks over the past 2+ months and have sent email thank you notes to all. There is a target of AT LEAST $1,500. in order to do the 2011 Mini-Reunion properly and at present we are at a minimum of 50% of that target. (R2006 cost us >$7,000. from the association bank account, not including the class gift of $2,000., but that was an entirely a different setting and purpose).
In September I will be sending out a revised list of those still owing dues through this year (’09) and what is required to be fully paid through ‘011. Please note that there will be no further dues after 2011. Anything left in the “kitty” after the mini-reunion will be an addition to our class gift and I will be closing the bank account at that time. Request that you send in your checks for dues through 2011 so that your costs for this, probably, last get-together are minimal-see below.
MINI-REUNION 2011 - Current plans are for this “last blast” to be held at the “Villages” in FL on 25/26 March 2011. Fri afternoon/evening we will have a very casual outdoor (decorated?, covered facility) “pizza party” with pizza, wings, 6 ft subs etc and wine beer, and soda, maybe music. Time and menu are TBD. How much, and what, are a function of your dues since this party will be gratus. HOWEVER, NON-MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION OR THOSE NOT FULLY PAID THROUGH 2011 WILL HAVE TO PAY A CHARGE FOR THE PARTY. I have not yet determined how much that will be in either category.
On Saturday we will have an informal sit-down dinner at the hotel. No speeches – guaranteed! We will be working with the Villages hotel to get the best rates possible – possibly with a “bailout” per room of maybe $2/night? Who knows. I am going to try to get the “deal” on the room rates from 3/24 through 3/26 or 7. In addition, since we will probably order from the menu, I want to get a fixed price for all entrées (3 choices?) as part of the deal. Again, all of this is subject, in part, to your payment of dues through 2011 especially if attending the mini-reunion. $ and the number of folks involved controls all – thus we need a reasonable nose count of attendees by 9/30/10 in order to negotiate the details.
While not engaged in class functions, there are numerous activities that will be available to you to include golf. Details to follow.
As we enter the fall season, I wish you all well.
Jay
I guess it's time to bring my column up to date and let you all know what's going on. Myself, I'm doing very well now with only some pain in my leg and foot, no pain in my neck; however, the neck got infected rather seriously and now I'm doing my own antibiotic IV infusion twice a day for the next few weeks. I was in the hospital Monday until late Wednesday night before I could get out and go home. My son and his wife came down from the Bay Area as well as my youngest stepdaughter and her family who also live in the Central Valley of California near Stockton. I haven't received any news lately from any of you guys so give it up will you and send me some good stuff so we can relay it to the rest of the class.
Well most of you know what the mini-reunion plans are but in case you don't, here's a quick reminder. Where: The Villages between
Orlando and
Tampa. When: March 25-26, 2011 (Fri/Sat), We'll have an Italian party and Chinese party the first night and a sit down dinner on Saturday night. The Italian dishes and Chinese dishes will come out of the Association funds, providing we have enough dues in by then to cover everything. If you wish to pay up through 2011/12, send your check made out to FMHS56AA to Jay Hern,
2042 Peach Orchard Dr. #608,
Falls Church,
VA22043. We still need to know who plans on attending ,so don't be shy and send either Jay or myself an email and let us know. We need a "headcount" for planning purposes. I know it seems like a long time away, but you'd be surprised how fast it'll get here. We'll have more information to give you as the time gets closer. I hope you all had a wonderful summer and, as always, if you have a mind to, drop me an email and let me know what's going on in your life. I remain, as always, your friend and classmate.
