Fayetteville-Manlius
High School is located a few miles east of Syracuse, New York
in Manlius, New York. This web site is for and about the 96 members of
the
Class of 1956.
Unless I/we have AT LEAST $1,500.00 in the bank for the reunion there will BE no reunion. At present there is only 2/3 of that in the account. Payment of DUES at the door is no help since I will not have the opportunity to deposit cash/checks in time to write checks to service providers.
Now the details of the reunion as of NOW:
1. 3/25/11 Fri: Italian and Chinese food (two settings), beer, wine and sodas. Probably ~1-6 PM at The Villages, Lady Lake FL. You won't need lunch, nor probably dinner. The AA pays the tab for this, but see below.
2. 3/26/11 Sat: Sit down dinner at a place TBD - possibly the hotel near The villages. We are going to try to get a 3 course fixed price menu - Meat or Seafood or Vegetarian entrees for < $30/head. Your cost +liquor, tax and
tip etc. No speeches.
3. We are also going to try to get a "special" hotel rate to cover the period of one day prior to and one day following the reunion. Once we know where, it will be up to you to make your own reservations. SO PLEASE LET STEW
KNOW IF YOU ARE ATTENDING - and HOW MANY! We MUST have this info and your dues no later than 9/30/10 to make final decisions and to proceed. Details will be provided as soon as they are firm.
That's it, for NOW. As to costs:
1. EVERYONE pays $2.00 registration fee (members, paid up or not, and non-members).
2. Non AA members $12.50 /head incl spouses etc of members
3. AA members: If dues are paid up per above list, $0.00. Otherwise, delinquent dues. $12.50 for spouses etc.
Following the reunion, we will terminate the Alumni Association to include the bank account and no dues will be collected beyond 2011. Any residual bank balance, after all bills have been paid, will be added to our 50th Class Gift to FMHS which was $2,000.00.
Still need pics of those attending the 50th but not in the class picture. Also, would like to see those not attending the 50th. This will be the LAST one, so think about it a bit !!
Any Qs? Pls call/email Stew or myself.
Regards to all,
Jay
Time to update my column again. Summer is beginning now and with it comes vacations. Remember, when you go on a trip be sure to take some photos and email them to me with an account of your experiences. We all like to know what the others are doing and I'm no exception.
Well most of you thought you knew what the mini-reunion plans were: however, they've changed a bit. Where: It's still in The Villages, located between
Orlando and
Tampa. When: March 25-26, 2011 (Fri/Sat), We'll have a Luau on Friday afternoon and a sit down dinner on Saturday night. The Luau (with open bar - beer, wine & soft drinks) will come out of the Association funds, providing we have enough dues submitted by then to cover everything. The Saturday evening dinner will be at R.J.'s Sea Grill and, weather permitting, will be on the lawn at lakeside. Everyone will be able to order off of the menu to ensure that they eat what they want (no rubber chicken dinner) and receive their own individual tabs, so that shouldn't be a problem. It would be outstanding if you all could pay up through 2011, sending your check made out to FMHS56AA to Jay Hern,
2042 Peach Orchard Dr. #608,
Falls Church,
VA22043. There is one large obstacle we have to overcome, and that is finding out exactly who is coming and who is not. Even if it's only a "Maybe", we need to hear from all of you. The reunion is less than a year away now and we need a "headcount" for planning purposes. We have blocked 15 rooms at the Waterfront Inn, 5 being with balconies (primarily for smokers, as it is a non-smoking establishment). The cost, which is normally ~$159 per night, to us will be $116/$126 which is a great savings for a beautiful hotel. Everything will be pretty much within walking distance, so getting around shouldn't be a problem. In case some of you are wondering where to fly in to, it's 72 miles from Orlando and 93 from Tampa. Remember, we need $$$ for the Luau; however, our coffers are not quite full enough to handle it all. I know that to some of you it seems like a long time away, but time will move very rapidly from here on out. We'll have more information to give you as the time gets closer. I hope you all had a comfortable winter and, as always, if you have a mind to, drop me an email and let me know what's going on in your life. I remain, as always, your friend, classmate, old retired Navy Chief and desert dweller.
